Sociology as a transformative tool

Hi, welcome to my last post to whoever is reading, I will be talking about how I could impact the world with my major; sociology.

To start, I can´t just say I will make the world a better place with my studies, that would be directly too pretentious for how chaotic and complex reality is, and not to mention how relativizable the "better" kind of measure is.

But, knowing the last is a starting point to try to make it better. Because sociology is part of the world of knowledge and disciplines that goes deeper into that kind of questions, constructing a clearer view of them could surely help to co-construct a better world.

With that being said, I'd like to think I can make the world a better place through more complete knowledge of what as a we, -call me an idealist or a utilitarian- the people of the world as a whole, can do to reduce the total suffering in all the ways possible and agreed by the most.

But talking in a more practical way, I would like to impact those transformations with my studies through work in public organisms, in the making of public policies, the redefinition of the role of the states, etc.

My Interests on Possible Post Graduate Studies

Hi classmates and professor, today I'm talking about possible post graduate careers.

When I think about my future, academically, I know I want to study at least one degree more than sociology, possibly a master's degree. Also I aspire to do a PhD when older, but who knows.

I haven't really made any deep research on post graduate studies. I have a general notion of what kind of specialization further within the field of sociology I'm interested onto. Like for example neurosocial science or something cognitive-social related.

I also like biology, psychology and psychiatry a lot, so I'm also interested in studying the entire career of biology, yes, the five years, but I dont know where my life is going to be in 4 years from now on, so it's just a desire.

If I take post graduate studies close after graduating of sociology, I would definitely like to study outside Chile, in the flesh, and part-time to be able to work or something like that.

And maybe in one of those fancy european cities where life goes around the principal university of the town.

On JIMMY EDGAR

Jimmy Edgar is a north american artist that I like a lot, he is mostly known as an electronic musician, however he is also a creative director and a pictorial artist.

Jimmy Edgar

Edgar developed an early interest in music and learned to play various instruments before he started experimenting with electronic music by age 10. He signed with a label at age 18, releasing his first solo album "Color Strip" (2006). In 2013 Jimmy started his own music label; ULTRAMAJIC RECORDS, founded with the argentinian designer Pilar Zeta, together they created a label with a unique abstract design-inspired and forms-oriented aesthetic on the album covers of the label.

I got to know his work because spotify recommended me a playlist with all Ultramajic discography, and I ended up liking him a lot because of the whole artistical concept that he embodies. To begin, he mixes electro house with R&B, funk, and the genre glitch like no one else, furthermore, the sound mixed with the unique aesthetic of the album covers created by him and Pilar Zeta creates a unique experience within inmersive atmospheres of introspective and fullfilling non-stop colorful fantasies.

Also, he wont limit himself with one artistic world of possibilities, he is constantly changing looks and trying new things.

A Photograph and Its Story

 Hello

For today's blog I'm going to talk about a picture of my cat that I like a lot.

I took this picture in my home the 4 of december of 2020, on a friday. This is my favorite picture on my cat by myself.

On the photograph, under a monkey t-shirt of my stepfather, the family cat can be spotted sleeping over my parents bed. She is called Mila, and was around 8 months old when the picture was taken.

I like this photograph because I personally arranged the shirt over Mila to cover her while sleeping, however as I was thinking of covering her I also thought that a picture of that scenario would be really funny, so the picture was half a footage, but the whole thing seems really cute and funny to me at the same time.

My Favorite Piece of Technology

Hi class

My favorite piece of technology is my green speaker.

I got it around 2018 for a reasonable price online.

If I'm not listening to music in my earphones, I'm listening to music on my speaker. I use it on the daily, almost everyday.

I use it specially on the shower, at least half of my showers are with music on, on my speaker (it's water resistant).

I like it because it's very little for how good it sounds. Also it's really compact to carry it anywhere in almost any piece of clothing that has a decent sized pocket.

Life would be more boring without the speaker, for sure. But I would be ok without it, because when it comes to hearing music, as long as I have some means with decent quality sound transfer to hear details, like my earphones, it wouldn't be so terrible not having the speaker.

Why I chose Sociology?

 Hi

That's a good question, I make it to myself from time to time.

When I was little I wanted to be something that I used to call "an inventor" (something like a crazy scientist). Things got a little more serious in my first 2 years of high school, years in that my interests were physics and philosophy.

Crazy scientist

I had various processes and influences in between, I liked social sciences as much as natural sciencies, I was mostly between psychology and sociology, but I couldn't be sure about a career, so I got into uchile bachelor's degree, were I reaffirmed my interest in sociology.

Luckily, because of the bachelor I've been in the flesh on the campus known as "JGM", but I got out before the end of the first semester to enter the year after to sociology online.

When it comes to the future, I have many interests, as in research on neurosocial science, but I can't hold onto anything concrete yet, posibilities are open.

BLOG 1 - Personal Information

Hello everyone

My name is Mateo Aguirre. I'm currently 20 years old and I was born in the city of Santiago.

I've always lived in Santiago with my nuclear family, composed by my mother, my step-father and my younger half-sister. We used to live with my older step-brother but he is a full grown up now. I have 2 more step-sisters and a half-sister from my father's family.

I went to four different schools before entering to University of Chile. Now I'm a second year student of sociology in that same establishment.

From time to time I get a little bit obssesed with some ideas, that's why I'm a little bit of everything person when it comes to knowledge. But if it was possible, I would like to get to know, a lot, of every-thing.

I have many interests, but what I like most is hearing music and finding new songs. From heavy and obscure, passing by chill and groovy, to dreamy and abstract genres.

Here's a picture of a chill album I've been hearing lately; St. Germain - Tourist:

I also like to look at funny images on the internet, here's one:
